Like most people, I was a single mom with drive and passion, and had a dream: to become financially secure in her old age. My main skills were being able to sell stuff to customers - and build up a loyal customer base - which I did for a couple of years - for different bosses - then broke away and did my own thing - opened a take-away food outlet. (I like cooking).
Here's a tip: don't go into take-away food - it involves standing on your legs for 10 hours a day - looking after the leftovers - keeping everything hospital-clean - and being nice to even unfriendly customers.
Fast forward 30 years - and I'm still at it - building the secure financial future. These days there's websites, Facebook, Google Ads, Instagram, YouTube, email lists, autoresponders, chatbots and more. Back in the day marketing was letterbox flyers. You may not even know what that was - it's a long time ago.
So - who the heck am I? My name is Marg Tolliday and since 2009 I've been helping doctors, nurses and other health professionals, from all around the world, pass high-stakes English tests. (See oetworkshop.com)
Selling and persuading people to see my point of view is easy for me. But I like a challenge. And that meant I had to do the 'hard yards' and find out about this thing called internet marketing.
I realised there was a need to have a website that gave newbies free, honest, basic know-how.
So - here it is. This is goldengoose.net.au (Don't confuse me with golden.goose - which is all about great looking sneakers. Just goldengoose - no [dot] in the middle.)
This website strives to give you no-nonsense, honest, information without lots of hype.
Here you will find tips on ways to sell online, how to get customers, where to advertise, and what all the terminology means - see 'Glossary of Terms'. And there are one or two offers which Marg recommends as starting points, to help you get into this industry for free or a low one-time payment.
